Frequently asked questions

Will I get the crash or jitters?

That’s what we designed it to avoid. Our teas are lab-tested and made with a patented formula that delivers the “golden ratio” of L-theanine, an amino acid known for promoting calm alertness. Natural tannins and polyphenols also slow how quickly caffeine is absorbed, so the lift builds gradually and feels easier on your stomach.

Does it have as much caffeine as coffee?

Our Manhattan Black and Charles Gray blends brew to coffee-strength caffeine. Green Gold is a middle option, and Cape Town is caffeine-free. Check the comparison chart above to pick your level.

Can I make lattes and add milk or sugar?

Yes. Because the tea is concentrated, it has a fuller body that holds up to milk, so it makes a better tea latte, hot or iced. Dress it up the way you would your coffee, with cream, sugar, or syrup. You can also make cappuccinos and macchiatos.

How do I brew it?

Anything you can do with coffee, Teaspressa can do better with tea.

Treat Teaspressa Tea as if it were coffee. Your taste preferences determine the right brewing method for you! Now you can dress up your cup of Teaspressa Tea with the same treatment you would for your coffee - with cream or sugar. No need to say goodbye to your favourite coffee brewers and rituals. Use them to make some Teaspressa!

CUP OF TEA

This method makes a full-bodied, robust cup of tea that is unlike any traditional brewed approach. The best brewers to make a cup of tea are the French Press or Pour Over. Again, think of Teaspressa Tea as if it were coffee. The French Press brewer will create a tea that has similar consistency of a French-pressed coffee. A pour-over brewer will create a tea with similar consistency to a pour-over coffee. Watch the How-To Tutorial Videos that we created to make each step easy.

POUR OVER

Best for extracting the most intricate flavours and aromas. This method may take more time, but it’s worth it.

How to brew using a pour over

  1. Bring water to a Boil

  2. Place pour-over on your mug & insert filter on the pour over unit

  3. Pre-soak filter with hot water

  4. Discard water from the pre soak

  5. Fill Pour-Over with 2 tbsp. Teaspressa Tea (1 Tea Scoop)

  6. Slowly & evenly Pour 12 oz. Hot water over the tea

  7. Wait 30 seconds

  8. Pour rest of hot water in a slow, circular, controlled motion

FRENCH PRESS

The French Press is great for sharing. If you’re hosting a tea party or having several cups to yourself, this is it.

How to Brew using a French Press

  1. Boil Water.

  2. Choose Teaspressa Tea

  3. Add 2 tbsp. or 1 Tea Scoop of Tea & 6 oz of hot water to French Press per serving.

  4. Cover with french press lid - wait 3-4 minutes

  5. Press down or plunger  the french press lid

TEA SHOT

Think of tea shots as espresso shots - they pack a punch and the black teas have the same amount of caffeine as coffee! Add as many shots as you would like to make the perfect cup.

We prefer the "Tea Shot" method because, like espresso, you can add water or milk to make it an americano or latte. The best brewers to use in order to make a tea shot is the Moka Pot or AeroPress. Think of tea shots as espresso shots - they pack a punch and the black teas have the same amount of caffeine as coffee! Add as many shots as you would like to make the perfect cup.

MOKA POT

Learn how to make a Teaspressa tea shot with a Moka Pot, also known as a stove top espresso maker and now a stovetop Teaspressa shot maker! This will give you the best tasting tea shot. It will mimic the shots that are brewed in our cafes.

How to Brew using a Moka Pot

  1. Remove Filter Basket from Moka Pot

  2. Add 5oz water & Return Filter Basket

  3. Add 2 tbsp. Teaspressa Tea (1 Tea Scoop)

  4. Twist Moka Pot lid on tightly

  5. Place over Medium Heat

  6. Remove from heat when you notice gurgling from the Pot

  7. Pour Tea Shot

AERO PRESS

We like to use the upside down method and find it a super simple, handy way to make out tea if you're short on time. If you're at home or an office you can get away with using the hot water from a water dispenser!

This is best for travel. It’s the quickest way to make a tea shot or even a cup of tea on the go!

  1. Bring Water to a Boil

  2. Insert plunger into the AeroPress

  3. Tunnel & flip upside down

  4. Add 2 Tbsp Tea (1 Tea Scoop)  into aeropress

  5. Add 5 oz Water & Stir

  6. Insert 2 filters into the AeroPress basket

  7. Twist onto the other side of the tunnel

  8. Flip AeroPress over cup

  9. Press plunger slowly until all the tea is extracted

Tapping into the science of extraction, Teaspressa Tea’s patented process brews a concentrated tea that mimics the qualities of espresso without the crash and jitters, making it the perfect replacement for coffee.

BENEFITS

Extraction

For both coffee and tea, heat, surface area, time, and pressure are used to extract flavor and beneficial compounds from the plant product. Steeping tea relies heavily on heat and time. Teaspressa leverages coffee brewing techniques to enhance the tea extraction process.

Full Bodied

By concentrating the tea during brewing, we create a richer, fuller-bodied tea — closer to the texture and mouthfeel of coffee. This gives the tea more structure, allowing it to pair better with milk (Hints better tea lattes), hold flavours longer on the palate, and deliver a more satisfying experience.

Caffeine

Through concentration, more nutrients and natural compounds are packed into a smaller volume of tea. Although tea is often seen as a low-caffeine option, our Manhattan Black blend rivals coffee in caffeine strength, offering an energizing experience without compromise.

L-Theanine

The amino acid L-theanine, naturally found in tea and super concentrated in teaspressa, modulates how caffeine is absorbed and affects the brain.

L-Theanine promotes “calm alertness” and smoothes out the spikes and crashes of energy levels.

Tannins & polyphenols

Naturally occurring chemical compounds bind to caffeine molecules and slow absorption into the bloodstream, providing a more gradual supply of caffeine over time. The slow build minimizes the diuretic effect of caffeine and thus feels easier on your stomach.

Which blend should I start with?

If you want to replace your coffee, start with Manhattan Black (rich and roasted). Prefer something lighter and floral? Try Charles Gray (citrus and floral). Want an earthy, moderate-caffeine option? Go for Green Gold. For a caffeine-free, woody and honeyed cup, choose Cape Town. All four pair with our flavour cubes.
